Lower school garden

Service

Summary
For an entire week, I spent working on the foundations of the future lower school garden. Some people from my grade helped me a bit but I did the most important and significant part. I was put in charge of it and as a consequence it was something very important to me as I had a significant role on what it would look like in the future. I basically had to clear the area, in which I would then plant the flowers and organize them.

What I learnt
After 2 days of hard work, I came to conclude that things in reality do not always happen as we plan them. I initially planned to clear the ground in 2 days, but after this period of time I did only 2/3 of the area. While I was planning, no other person helped me as I wanted to make this experience very personal and learn from my own mistakes if it wouldn't really work out as I planned. From this day and this experience, I started to make more realistic planning with achievable goals. The same would apply to the IB diploma in general and especially with big projects such as internal assesements, which cannot be done in a small amount of time, since they require a lot of work. It is definitely going to help me in the future as my perception on planning totally changed (and I could even say improved because I actually made mistakes from which I learnt ).

Below is my evidence of preparation which was a plan before I actually got to work on the garden. I took some time to organize and plan my journey by dividing each task and prioritazing them as I only had 5 days. In the end,  I realized that my planning wasn't really realistic because I didn't manage to meet the deadlines even thought I worked as hard as I could. I learnt a lesson from that, which is to always be realistic and allow more spare time in the planning process so I can meet the deadlines.
